Patrón El Alto is a premium extra añejo tequila produced at Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco, Mexico. This release blends tequilas aged in four distinct barrel types: French oak, American oak, Hungarian oak, and used bourbon barrels. The agave used comes from both highland and lowland regions, with Patrón sourcing Weber Blue agave from the Los Altos highlands near Atotonilco and the lowland Jalisco valley. This dual-region approach aims to capture the fruit-forward sweetness typical of highland agave alongside the more herbaceous, earthy character of lowland plants. Production at Hacienda Patrón employs both traditional tahona wheels and roller mills, with distillation occurring in small copper pot stills. The distillery then blends the outputs to achieve complexity. El Alto rests for a minimum of three years across its various cask types before final blending. The result is a layered tequila with notable oak influence balanced by cooked agave sweetness. This bottle suits those seeking a sipping tequila with bourbon-like richness while retaining agave character. The multi-barrel aging and dual-region sourcing set it apart from standard extra añejo offerings.
