Jose Cuervo Especial Gold comes from the La Rojeña distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, one of the oldest operating distilleries in Latin America, founded in 1795. It is a mixto tequila, containing a minimum of 51 percent blue Weber agave with the remainder from other sugars. The agave is harvested from the lowlands around the town of Tequila, where the red volcanic soil and warmer climate give earthier, more herbaceous plants. It uses industrial column distillation. The gold colour comes from caramel colouring and oak extract rather than extended barrel aging, though it has brief contact with oak. It is the best-selling tequila worldwide. It is used in cocktails, particularly margaritas. This is the 375 ml size.
