The Wine
Pio Cesare is one of the old houses of Alba, and the 2020 vintage gave Barolo serious structure. This needs a table with braised beef short ribs or a slow-roasted lamb shoulder; the tannin is built for fat and protein, and without them it will fight you.
Worth Knowing
Founded in Alba in 1881 and still in the same family. Federica Boffa Rosy became the fifth generation to run it after the death of her father Pio Boffa.
