The Wine
A new voice in Bordeaux
Les Carmes Haut-Brion is one of the most talked-about estates in modern Bordeaux, and one of the most distinctive. Its vineyard sits within the city of Bordeaux itself, in Pessac, a short walk from the famous First Growths.
Since Guillaume Pouthier arrived as winemaker in 2012, the style has broken with Left Bank convention: a high proportion of old-vine Cabernet Franc, whole-bunch fermentation borrowed from the Rhône and Burgundy, and a gentle, infusion-led hand in the cellar.
The wines are aromatic, fine and lifted rather than dense and muscular, a deliberately different idea of what a great Bordeaux can be.

The Estate
An old name, reborn
The estate takes its name from the Carmelite friars who owned it for more than two centuries, until the French Revolution. The Chantecaille-Furt family held it until 2010, when it passed to the Pichet group.
Under new ownership and Pouthier’s direction, this small urban estate has gone from a quiet local name to one of Bordeaux’s most closely followed wines.
