Writers' Tears - Japanese Cask Finish Whiskey

Writers' Tears Japanese Cask Finish is a limited edition Irish whiskey from Walsh Whiskey, founded in 1999 by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh and based in Carlow. It is triple distilled Irish single pot still whiskey married with Irish single malt, from a single cask of Japanese Mizunara oak. The label says the oak came from the foothills of Mount Fuji. It is bottled at 55% ABV and is not chill filtered. Walsh Whiskey's notes are green fruits, apple and pear on the nose over a pot still base, then vanilla and clove on the palate, followed by sandalwood, coconut and Japanese incense. The name comes from a story Walsh Whiskey tells: it was said that writers enjoyed the whiskey so much that when they cried, their tears were of whiskey.
