The Tequila
Tequila the old way
El Tesoro is a highland tequila made at the La Alteña distillery in Arandas, deep in the Los Altos hills of Jalisco. It has stayed faithful to traditional methods under the Camarena family, with master distiller Carlos Camarena guiding it today.
The agave is estate grown, crushed with a stone tahona, and fermented with its own fibres in wooden tanks. Unusually, the tequila is distilled all the way to bottling strength rather than diluted afterward, which keeps the agave character intact.
The Añejo rests two to three years in American oak casks that once held bourbon, adding soft vanilla and caramel. It is made with no additives at all, just agave, time and oak.

Nose
Cooked agave, butterscotch, dried fruit, oak spice, and faint honey.
Palate
Rich caramel, roasted agave, baking spice, vanilla, with citrus undertones.
Finish
Long and warm with lingering oak and pepper.

La Alteña sits high in the Los Altos hills at Arandas, one of the most respected addresses in tequila. The Camarena family has farmed agave and made tequila here for generations.
Carlos Camarena is regarded as one of the great traditional tequila makers, and El Tesoro is his standard bearer, made the slow way from start to finish.
