The Tequila
Named for the year it began
Don Julio 1942 takes its name from the year a young Don Julio González first began making tequila in the highlands of Jalisco. The expression was created in 2002 to mark six decades since that start, and built from the ground up as a tequila to sip rather than shoot.
The agave grows in Los Altos, the high red-soil country east of Guadalajara, where cool nights and altitude give the blue Weber agave a sweeter, rounder character. It is slow-roasted, distilled, and then rested in oak for a minimum of two and a half years, which is what gives 1942 its caramel-and-vanilla warmth.
The tall, fluted bottle is shaped after a single agave leaf. Pour it neat, give it a little air, and take it slowly: this is an after-dinner tequila, a celebration bottle, the kind you bring out when the moment calls for something with some age on it.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Warm caramel and vanilla over roasted agave, with toasted oak, dried fruit and a soft note of baking spice.
Palate
Rich and rounded: cooked agave, butterscotch and warm caramel layered with vanilla, a touch of dark chocolate and gentle peppery spice from the barrel.
Finish
Long and warm, with lingering oak, cocoa and a clean agave sweetness that fades slowly rather than burns.

“The golden color and caramel scent hint at what’s to come: sweet agave flavor, a lingering whisper of smoke and mellow notes of tropical fruit, Sauternes and butterscotch.”

The House
The house of Don Julio
Don Julio González started making tequila in 1942, as a teenager, in the highlands of Jalisco. Over the following decades he built one of the names that taught the world to take tequila seriously, and to drink it neat.
The 1942 bottling is the tribute to that beginning: a small-batch añejo, patiently barrel-aged, presented in a bottle shaped after an agave leaf. It is made for slow sipping, not for the mixer.
