The Bottle
Dalwhinnie has made Highland single malt since 1897, at the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. Diageo calls it the highest and coldest working distillery in Scotland, and the village averages 6°C. It still condenses its spirit in wooden worm tubs. In 1988 it was chosen as the Highland malt in Diageo's Classic Malts series. Diageo's notes for the 15 Year Old are heather honey, citrus and malted bread.
Worth Knowing
The coldest working distillery in Scotland, about 355 metres up in the Cairngorms since 1897. Whether it is also the highest is a long running argument with Braeval, which sits within three metres of it.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Heather honey, fresh pear, subtle malt, and light floral notes.
Palate
Smooth honey sweetness, soft citrus, gentle spice, and creamy vanilla.
Finish
Medium length, clean and softly warming with lingering honey.
