Silkie - Irish Whiskey

Silkie Irish Whiskey is produced by the Sliabh Liag Distillery, located on the rugged southwest coast of County Donegal in Ireland. The distillery takes its name and identity from the Celtic legend of the Silkie, the mythical seal-folk said to inhabit the wild Atlantic coastline of this region.

The whiskey itself is a blend of single malt and single grain Irish whiskeys, brought together to reflect the character of Donegal rather than the softer, more polished style associated with much of mainstream Irish whiskey production.

While Sliabh Liag sources its whiskey from established Irish distilleries as it builds aging stock at its own facility, the blending work is deliberate and place-driven. The result is a whiskey with more texture and presence than the typical triple-distilled Irish blend, with a nod to older, more rustic Irish styles.

It is bottled without an age statement and at a modest strength that keeps it approachable. For drinkers who find standard Irish whiskey too light or anonymous, Silkie offers genuine regional identity and a more layered drinking experience.

It works well neat or over a single large ice cube, and its character holds up reasonably well in a simple cocktail.
