Sambuca Dei Cesari - Luxardo

Luxardo is one of Italy's most storied distilling families, founded in Zara in 1821 and now operating from Torreglia in the Veneto region. The company is best known for its maraschino cherry liqueur, but its Sambuca dei Cesari is a serious and well-regarded expression of this classic Italian anise spirit.

Sambuca is produced by infusing star anise and green anise with neutral spirit and sugar, and Luxardo follows traditional methods that have remained largely consistent for generations.

The name references the elder bush, sambucus, which historically played a role in the spirit's botanical origins, though star anise now dominates modern production. Luxardo's version is clear, sweet, and intensely aromatic, with a clean anise character that avoids the synthetic edge found in cheaper sambucas.
