Maraschino - Luxardo

Luxardo is a family-owned Italian distillery founded in Zara in 1821, in what is now Zadar, Croatia, and has produced maraschino liqueur by a largely unchanged process for two centuries. After World War II the family relocated to the Veneto. The liqueur is made from Marasca cherries, a small, sour variety.

Both the fruit and the crushed pits are fermented and distilled, and the spirit is aged in Finnish ashwood vats and blended with Marasca cherry syrup. The pits add a subtle bitter almond quality. The sweetness is restrained and the profile is drier than most fruit liqueurs.

It is used in the Aviation, the Last Word and the Hemingway Daiquiri, and in a Negroni variation or a Sour. This is the 500 ml bottle.
