Liquore Strega is produced by the Alberti family in Benevento, in the Campania region of southern Italy, where it has been made since 1860.
The name Strega means witch in Italian, a reference to the local legend that witches once gathered in Benevento to perform rituals, and the brand has leaned into this mythology throughout its long history.
The liqueur is made from a blend of around 70 botanical ingredients, including mint, fennel, saffron, and Ceylon cinnamon, combined with a neutral spirit base. Saffron is responsible for its distinctive bright golden-yellow color, which is one of the more recognizable visual signatures of any Italian liqueur.
Strega sits at 40 percent alcohol by volume, giving it enough structure to hold its own in cocktails while remaining approachable as a digestif.
It has been a fixture in Italian households for generations and occupies a place in the country's cultural life beyond the bottle shop shelf, lending its name to Italy's most prestigious literary prize, the Premio Strega, since 1947.
For customers, it works well served neat after a meal, over ice, or in classic cocktail applications where a herbal, slightly sweet Italian liqueur is called for. It is a genuine heritage product with real depth and history.
