Kilchoman is one of Scotland's smallest and most remote distilleries, established in 2005 on the western coast of Islay and one of only a handful of farm distilleries in the country.

Sanaig is a permanent expression in the Kilchoman lineup, named after a rocky inlet on the island's north coast, and it sits at the peated, sherry-forward end of the distillery's range.

Unlike the more balanced Machir Bay, Sanaig is matured predominantly in Oloroso sherry casks, which give it a richer, darker character while still preserving the distillery's signature maritime peat.

Kilchoman handles nearly every stage of production on site, including malting a portion of its own barley, which is a rarity in modern Scotch whisky.

Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, Sanaig offers a genuine sense of place, combining the briny, smoky qualities of Islay with the dried fruit and chocolate depth that comes from extended sherry cask influence.

For anyone who appreciates Islay whisky but wants something with more weight and sweetness than a purely peated expression, Sanaig is a well-crafted and consistently satisfying option at a fair price point for the quality on offer.
