Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge is the flagship expression from the French house of Marnier-Lapostolle, founded in 1880 by Louis-Alexandre Marnier Lapostolle.

The recipe combines fine Cognac, sourced from the Grande Champagne and Borderies regions, with the distilled essence of bitter wild oranges from the Caribbean, primarily the Citrus bigaradia variety grown in Haiti.

The oranges are harvested, dried, and their peels are macerated before distillation, producing an aromatic essence that is then blended with aged Cognac and sugar syrup. The result is bottled at 40 percent ABV.

What sets Grand Marnier apart from other orange liqueurs, such as triple sec or Cointreau, is the use of genuine Cognac as its base spirit rather than a neutral grain spirit, which adds depth, warmth, and a noticeable brandy character beneath the orange sweetness. Cordon Rouge is genuinely versatile.

It performs well in classic cocktails including the Margarita, Cosmopolitan, and Sidecar, where it adds complexity beyond what a standard triple sec would provide. It also works neat or over ice as a digestif, and pairs naturally with dark chocolate.

At this price point it is a well-established, reliable bottle that earns its place in a serious home bar.
