Don Julio 1942 comes from La Primavera distillery in the highlands of Jalisco, where the Gonzalez family has produced tequila since 1942. The name honors the year Don Julio Gonzalez began his distilling career.
Made from 100 percent blue Weber agave grown in the red volcanic soils of Los Altos, this anejo draws on the highland terroir that typically yields sweeter, fruitier agave compared to lowland varieties.
The agave is slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens for 72 hours before fermentation and double distillation in pot stills. Aging runs a minimum of two and a half years in American white oak barrels, significantly longer than the one-year minimum required for anejo classification.
The distinctive tall amber bottle has become iconic.
