Delord is one of the most respected houses in Bas-Armagnac, the westernmost and generally regarded finest sub-region of the Armagnac appellation, centered around the sandy soils of the Landes.
Founded in 1893 and still family-run across generations in Lannepax, Delord distills using traditional continuous column stills, known locally as alembic armagnaçais, which preserve a level of fruity, rustic character that pot-still cognac rarely achieves.
Their vintage and age-dated bottlings have earned a loyal following among serious brandy drinkers.
This 25 Ans release is a blend of eaux-de-vie averaging 25 years in oak, which in Armagnac terms means a spirit that has moved well beyond primary fruit into a complex register of dried stone fruit, baking spice, and aged wood.
Bas-Armagnac's sandy terroir tends to produce lighter, more aromatic spirits than the chalky Grande Champagne of Cognac, and the extended aging here adds weight and integration without sacrificing that regional personality.
At this age and price point, it competes with XO releases from much larger and more expensive houses. For anyone curious about Armagnac as a category or looking to give a serious brandy gift, this is a grounded, age-verified choice from a producer with a genuine track record.
