Chum Churum Original - Soju

Chum Churum is produced by Lotte Chilsung Beverage, one of South Korea's largest beverage companies, and despite being marketed under a Japanese label for certain export markets, this soju originates from South Korea.

The name translates roughly to 'like the first time,' a reference to the clean, smooth character the brand aims for. Chum Churum is notable for its use of alkali water sourced from deep underground, which the producer credits for its softer texture compared to other mass-market sojus.

It is distilled from rice and other starches, then diluted to around 16 to 17 percent alcohol by volume, placing it firmly in the contemporary low-ABV soju style that has become dominant in the South Korean market. The result is a mild, approachable spirit with very little of the bite associated with older-style soju.

At 360ml and under ten dollars, it is an honest and practical option for anyone who enjoys soju straight from the freezer in the Korean tradition, or as a mixer in cocktails like soju tonics or fruit-forward punches.

It is not a craft product, but it delivers consistency and value at a price point that is hard to argue with.
