Basil Hayden's Kentucky Straight Bourbon is produced at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, part of Beam Suntory. It is named after Basil Hayden Sr., a Maryland farmer who settled in Kentucky in 1796 and used higher rye content in bourbon. The mashbill has a higher rye percentage than standard bourbons.
It is bottled at 80 proof. The rye gives a spicier character than corn-forward bourbons. It is aged a minimum of four years in new charred American oak barrels, giving gentle caramel and vanilla. It is served neat, on the rocks or in classic cocktails.
